Chelsea Art Museum

W
hat an experience!!!!!

Today we had the honor of going on a field trip to the Chelsea Art Museum Home of the Miotte Foundation. We viewed Marlene Tseng Yu’s Forces of Nature exhibition and Carlo Zanni’s Flying False Colors exhibition presented The Project Room for New Media at Cam, a technology inspired art medium. There was additional featured attraction all of which were equally interesting and insightful.

We would like to thank Ms. Carolin Wagner who toured our class through the museum and provided us with countless information about each artist and more.

Ms. Nieto, Ms. Boulamaali, Ms. Serrano, and Ms. Lasky you have done it again. Provided us with another valuable learning experience!!!!!! Many Thanks

Students please share your experience with the “What I Learned For Sure” community.

Music and Music Artists have always influenced fashion. Kanye West, Beyonce, and Lady Gaga are mainstream music artists who have currently made their mark in the fashion world with unique, retro, and eccentric styles.
Can you think of a music artist who started a trend that inspired fashion? If so, name the artist and explain the concept behind the style.

"The Fabric of Our Lives"

In Patternmaking and Sewing Techniques we have shopped and selected woven fabrics for our skirts.

In Draping we used a woven stretch fabric to drape the Basic Cowl Bodice.

Conduct an internet research on fabric studies. Choose two fabrics of your choice and for each fabric post the fabric name, definition, and the end uses for the fabric. Include the website url where you found your information.

Flounce, Ruffle, & More Flounce

Flounce: A flounce is a wide ruffle
Ruffle - Strip of cloth, lace or ribbon at the edge of a garment that creates a rippled effect.

This weeks topic is Flounce and Ruffles. In Pattern making we converted a straight skirt into a straight skirt with a flounce. In Draping we added a Flounce at the hem of our Shift Dress. And in Sewing Techniques we constructed an In Seam Ruffle sample.
Shortly we will be designing and constructing garments in class. List 4 to 6 ways that you can incorporate a flounce or a ruffle onto your original design ideas.

Fashion at the 2009 Grammys

HIT:-)

MISS:-(

The music was hot but the clothing was even HOTTER!!!!!

Although I thought that Jennifer Hudson's white, gray, and black cocktail dress was too distracting, the black sequence gown she wore during her performance was very classy and sophisticated.

Congratulations on your Grammy Award Miss Hudson!!!!!

Sharing Knowledge is Caring

As I was walking around the computer classroom some weeks ago, I noticed that students were visiting websites that are very resourceful to us all as Fashion Designers. One student logged into http://www.fashionclub.com/index.shtml?html, while another student visited http://www.mypracticalskills.com/. After visiting these sites, I was so impressed by the library of information that they offered regarding fashion.

The purpose of this blog is for you to share with the What I Learned For Sure Community websites that you know may be resourceful to the study of fashion design.
If you click on the resource link on Ms. David's website you will find additional useful websites.

Let's build each other up by sharing our knowledge.
