As I read what I learned was that many fashion designers take ideas from others it can be said as stealing or not. Also, some people can call it clever or genuine while others see it as bad and wrong. It is all about the perspective of the eye in fashion. The author shows its perspective by adding quotes from other fashion designers to complete what he agrees on too. “The most complex window in the history of window display,” Mr. Hoey called it, “and I should know.” By adding this in the text he showed a connection without saying it in his own words.
When the author said “This job is part architect and part cake designer,” means when you’re working you have to have the visual eye of architecture but when it comes to the other part the ideas and creativity of a cake designer. I agree with him fashion is about both in a same way. - Ailyn A.

After reading the article, I learned that ideas within the fashion industry and among the designers themselves, can be recycled to keep up with the current trends. As the article describes this aspect of the industry, it has an appreciative tone towards the "recycling" of ideas. "That mannequin became famous among window designers for pulling off a nifty trick: it was at once minimalist and over the top, a bare-bones visual that celebrated indulgence" shows how the author is fascinated with such art.

When Mr. Hoey said, “This job is part architect and part cake designer," he signals the fact that there's a foundation when it comes to creating well-constructed pieces like you see in architecture and the visual that seems intriguing to the consumer to make them come into the store more, comparing it to a cake designer.

What i learned in the article was at sometime when designers have ideas that are like others it can be seen as stealing. Although it maybe seen as stealing in yours or my point of view it can be seen to others as a favor from someone. the text show that the author show that he is in agreement with other designers. He also uses a quote to show that this is wrong.
When the author said that “This job is part architect and part cake designer,” he means that when you work in the industry you must have the thoughts of a architect but the creative ideas of a cake designer. hint designer in the quote.

Throughout my duration of reading the article, I learned that in the fashion industry, the word "stolen" means the taking of an idea that was seen visually (billboards, shop windows, etc.) and altering it to your liking, like having an inspiration. The text backs this claim up by stating that "Each window is a one-shot deal, which leaves a lot more room for both craft and activity.". I also learned that this use of "stealing" can be considered creative, but can also be considered as a phony, a fraud and a cheat to others. The author's language shows his perspective by showing how window display in a store is a necessity in making a business flourish. To back this claim up, the author states in the text based from Mr.David Hoey that "Display is a certain branch of show business and theater and storytelling".
The phrase said by Mr. Hoey, "This job is part architect and part cake designer." signalled in the 5th paragraph meant that everything must be both beautifully constructed like a house(architecture) and creatively designed like a customized cake or garment (cake designer).

what i learned as i read the article is many ideas in the industry can inspire many others, some people may call it inspiration while other people may see it as stealing or copying someone else's work. the author shares his perspective by the quotes he uses through out the article because he says 'Window display as art form dates to the 1940s, when Gene Moore introduced humor and storytelling to his windows at Tiffany & Company" his perspective on it is that the work being done is an art. the phrase “This job is part architect and part cake designer” is that you need to be able to to build thing like an architecture but have the creativity of a cake designer since so many things are already created and you want to put forth something new.

What I learned about the article is that during the years the same idea always come back . As it says in the beginning in the article "Something apparently from Bergdorf Goodman was on display in the window of juicy couture store on fifth avenue during fashion week in September ; a mannequin with one very long are draped with half a dozen headphone."
This idea was used a lot in year passed but with different item like in 2003 and 2009 .
When the author said "This job I part architect and part cake designer." meaning the job a lot of idea that a cake designer would usually use .

What I learned as I read was that many ideas can inspire many other people, but some people call it stealing and some call it inspiration. Some people call it stealing because it came from a person who worked really hard on it “the most complex window in the history of window display, and I should know” (Quenca).According to the passage the author’s language shows his perspective by adding quotes from the designer’s and/ agreeing or disagreeing. When Mr. Hoey says the phrase “this job is part cake designer “he means when you work at an industry you have to be creative as a fashion designer but you have to have the thoughts of an architect, he compares an architect to a designer.

What I learned from this article was that every trend in fashion comes back around. Fashion is like a cycle that never ends, In the article it talks about how many designers took concepts from others but still made it there own. " But the concept was clearly lifted- let's call it a homage- from an acclaimed 2003 Bergdorf Window." Many can consider this as a branch off to new trends but some consider it unoriginal and wrong. Some believe that designers should be able to create or come up with new ideas for new collections. Yet, it is not so simple. So if fashion was used as a cycle or a way to expand designers minds with old ideas it would be easier to create clothing or in this case window displays.

The language used in this article can symbolize a lot of things but it also shows the authors perspective. When the author says " This job is part architect and part cake designer" he talks about the structure of designing a window display piece. It can be a lot of work not only are you trying to show the designers collection and clothing you are trying to please the viewers eye. That is why he mentions it as if being a cake because while making a cake you want to taste good but if it is beautiful on the outside that will catch peoples eye. This can also connect to the idea of clothing because not only do you have to make certain pieces easy for everyday life or creation occasions, you also have to make it pleasing to the buyers eye and sell it to people. I 100% agree with he author in fashion designing or the fashion business being like a sake designer or architect.

As I read the article, I learned a few more things about the fashion industry. Many designers use other designers idea but make it their own. There are many designers who will eventually copy or "steal" window displays but its the design concept that matters not the display. The author's language indicates that fashion can be used over and over again. He says that people are "just focusing on the art and the characters" . The designs could be totally different but the display could be the same so it isn't really stolen. The phrase “This job is part architect and part cake designer”
in paragraph 5 signals that architect is designing the window display and how it might look and have a cake designer creative mind.

As I read the article I learned that in the fashion industry, it isn’t unusual for designers and stores to use other’s ideas. The act isn’t punished because it is seen as an act of admiration with no ill intent. Juicy Couture stole the idea of a mannequin with one very long arm draped with their chosen product from Bergdorf Goodman. Juicy Couture’s window display “was clearly lifted—let’s call it homage—from an acclaimed 2003 Bergdorf window” (Quenqua, 2010). Juicy Couture’s window display of 6 headphones hung on a long plastic arm was inspired by Bergdorf Goodman’s display of 26 handbags on a 15 foot mannequin arm. The mannequin was famous for being both moderate and over the top. Bergdorf Goodman has a reputation of smart yet corrupted art pieces that satisfy everyone and inspire other designers. Although the Concept is stolen, designers take no offense or action seeing it as a harmless deed that is meant to show awe.
The author’s language shows that he is not angered when it comes to minor design theft. Quenqua uses words such as “homage” and “nifty” to showcase his opinion on the matter. When it comes to minor design theft the author chooses to see it has a sign of admiration. He describe it as homage meaning he finds it honorable with no foul intentions. It is respectful not cruel. Quenqua also describes it as nifty. Having your idea replicated years after it was developed is pleasing and stylish. Quenqua sees no real harm is letting a design idea be used among others. He sees it as a pleasing sign if respect.
Being a designer of any kind requires many characteristics. In the fifth paragraph it states that the “job is part architect and part cake designer” (Quenqua, 2010). This signals that the job is dependent on intellect and creativity. Designers often feel no anger toward any borrowed ideas. Being a designer requires the planning and intellect of an architect and the patience and imagination of a cake designer. If an idea is borrowed, designers are sure to add their own personal touch resulting in an original design.

What I learned from the article was that in the fashion industry ideas can be used over and over again and still be seen as something new and trendy. However with the right resources and media attention it can also be seen as plagiarizing someone else's creation, which can be taken as a bad thing or a good thing. The way the author used his words showed that his perspective on the given event is similar in what the other designers say in the article itself which is that taking other peoples ideas and successes for their own is not right. When Mr. Honey said, “This job is part architect and part cake designer” he means that there is an art to window designing, and that you have to work like an architect but execute with the creativity of a cake designer.

After i read " window dressing warriors" I notice how ideas are shared around the fashion world. like different thing from the past is always recycled. you can tell based on many things not just clothing. but in this particular passage the talked about the sharing of window design.the author of the passes uses certain quotes for example "recycle" to show how he notice the trends.

so, what did the author of this passage mean by "this job is architect and part cake designer"?
in my opinion he meant the creativity and construction of certain designers in the field.

After reading "window dressing warriors" I have learned that fashion designers take inspiration form other designers and incoorparate it in there work. Some designers/people may consider this as "stealing" or "stolen" from the original designers work, they believe that the desinger taking inspiration is taking the "shine" away from the original piece. Another thing I have learned is that fashion is being recycled. For an example a fashion piece that was the "now" in the 80s( skirt, dress top etc) can come back in 2014 (a little developed) and be the "now " or Trend of the new millennium.

After reading “Window-Dressing Warriors” I was inspired to learn more about Bergdorf window displays. I looked at the pictures of the original manikin from the Bergdorf window display and thought the idea of it being “clearly lifted” from the original was a little far-fetched. I believe saying it as more of inspiration or homage is more of an appropriate term.
