Flounce, Ruffle, & More Flounce

Flounce: A flounce is a wide ruffle
Ruffle - Strip of cloth, lace or ribbon at the edge of a garment that creates a rippled effect.

This weeks topic is Flounce and Ruffles. In Pattern making we converted a straight skirt into a straight skirt with a flounce. In Draping we added a Flounce at the hem of our Shift Dress. And in Sewing Techniques we constructed an In Seam Ruffle sample.
Shortly we will be designing and constructing garments in class. List 4 to 6 ways that you can incorporate a flounce or a ruffle onto your original design ideas.

I intend to add 2 rows of ruffles onto the center front of the shirt that I am going to design and construct in Ms. David's Draping class:))))

i love ruffles to a certain extent. i think too much ruffles looks cheezy and cheap.
i think a horizontal ruffle along the bust line is good idea for accentuating a ruffle on the hem of the dress. its not always expected, but if constructed correctly, its a classic look that can past as edgy.

I love ruffles> I think that Ruffles can sometimes add that extra something to an outfit. But i hate When people overdue ruffles. Like when someone has ruffles on a shirt and top it drives me crazy\

I personally I am not a big fan on ruffles. I think that they make the outfit look sort of grandmaish.
I like ruffles when their on a blouse or maybe at the bottom of a skirt. But I dont really think that they should go everywhere.

I love when simple ruffles are added to JUST the bodice of the dress, or exaggerated ruffles are added to JUST the bottom, loosely fit part of the dress...other wise its just over the top. What I definitely don't like is when ruffles are applied to long sleeves.

I think ruffles, either in the front of a blouse or at the bottom of a skirt, are a nice detail. BUT I think that exaggerated, huge ruffles only belong on couture runway fashion shows.

Another 2 ways that you can add ruffles to a design (beside the 2 listed above) can be to a sleeve or maybe to the neckline of a dress.

YES YES YES the ruffles are in. Many people in the fashion world are wearing ruffled shirts with high waisted skirts and a pair of stunning heals to top it off. I can officially say that the ruffle has made a major come back and its hitting our fashion world very hard in stylish but classy ways =)

I think just the right about of ruffles can give a garment the extra flounce it needs. I do agree with everyone else saying that too much ruffles is cheesy and unattractive. I think that it should be used at the hem of a garment (like a dress or a skirt)

I would use flounces on empire waist shirts, pencil skirts, elbow length shirts and ruffles on a v-neck bodice. I always thought a long ruffle would look nice on a fitted strapless dress. I like including flounces and flares to many of my sketches.

RUFFLES ARE NOT REALLY MY KIND OF STYLE , HOWEVER I WOULD LUV TO MAKE A SKIRT WHICH HAS A PENCIL SHAPE HOWEVER I WOULD LIKE IT TO HAVE RUFFLES AT THE BOTTOM SO IT COULD LOOK LIKE A MERMAID KIND OF LOOK. :D

I like ruffles. They one of my favorite things to make.
-I would probualy use the ruffles to finish the bottom hem of a pencil a pencil skirt.
-Another way would be to make a Halter vest top and out the ruffles on the sides of the buttons and button holes.
-Another way to include ruffles is by having a plain white shirt with the ruffles added to the bottom of the shirt.

i like ruffles i think they are playful and feminine. i like when they are on shirts on the sleeves or around the neckline.I think it looks nice on elbow length shirts to the wrists anywhere between there. In my sketches i add them at the shoulders sometimes i think it looks really cool there but there is a point where theres too much ruffles. Like on couture runways where u cant see the girls face because half of its blocked by ruffles. Its funny but extreme. I think it adds more shape and movement when people use ruffles.. I would also add ruffles to pants i really want to do that.

Ruffles are so creative and add flare and style to a garment. Im excited to see how the drape will turn out . i hope to put ruffles at the bottom ...maybe even the sides ...i would like to say how that would look .
