Sewing Techniques Week 5

Catch Stitch is a type of hand hemming stitch. This past week you learned how to execute a Catch Stitch, and you will soon learn about other hand hemming stitches. Research the Internet and find two other types of hemming stitches. Describe what it looks like, and where or how it is commonly used. Please site your reference.

Sewing Techniques Week 4

Machine sewing is the technique and skill used to permenantly combine and stitch pieces of cloth together to create a product that can be worn, or for furnishing usage. This week in class we learned how to thread a machine and execute parallel stitches on a sample. Did you know that Top Stitching is also used for decorative purposes? Check out the top stitch decoration on the following Boots and Jeans.

Can you think of products other than clothing that is created by sewing the fabric together? If so what is the name of the product, and what is it's end usage purpose?

Spring / Summer 2009 FASHION WEEK

The Spring / Summer 2008 Fashion Show is currently taking place in New York City. Many major designers are showcasing their collection. All of the NYC journals, television, and internet sites have published visual, as well as written information about the fashion previews. What is your opinion on the fashion trends you have observed?
