Muslin is the main fabric used in the fashion industries to drape a wide variety of original design ideas. In fact this week we used it to drape our basic bodice. Fact 1) Muslin is used because it is inexpensive. Dressmakers use muslin first to test the fit therefore avoiding mistakes on the intended fabric.
Fact 2) Muslin can be found on the back or lining of quilts.
Fact 3) Muslin is used for theater sets. It is also used to paint, because it shrinks when it is painted on.
Fact 4) Muslin was named after a Mosul (which is present day Iraq) because that is where Europeans first encountered it.
