Sewing Techniques Week 7

We Wear Short Shorts!

It is that time of the year when I encourage students to design and construct a garment. I am excited to see your original design ideas! You have each been asked to find a woven fabric of your choice, as well as trims and findings that will best communicate your design inspiration.

  • Based on the samples we have completed, which seams are you going to use to construct your shorts?
  • What type of trimmings and findings are you going to use on your shorts?

  • Which Spring / Summer 2009 Current Trends will you incorporate onto your design?

On our field trip to the Rubins Museum I learned a lot of things. On the 6 floor there were some munks that were praying then one came out with something covering his mouth so that his bad spirits wont come between the blessings.I also learned that all the art work comes from the following states:China, Mongolia, Nepal and Tiblet.

the seams that i want to use on my shorts are the flat -fell seam and the french-curve seam. the trim and findings i will use is black lace, and some metallic or any type of pretty button that will look good on my shorts. the shorts I'm pretty sure of, are going to be loose and have pockets and flaps.

i will be using the plain seam to construct my shorts.
as my trim i will be using a ribbon and constructing it into a bow, replacing the elastic band around the waist. the colors i had in mind were red or pink, the material..preferbly velvet.
i guess i would say that my trend would be"high waisted", and vintage floral print.
