On Tuesday March 22, 2011 Ms. McDowell, Ms. Vasquez, Ms. Jernejec and I chaperoned a group of our Fashion Design students to view exhibits at The Museum at FIT. The main lobby featured the His & Hers exhibit. “His & Hers compares men’s and women’s clothing from the 18th century to the present”. Vivienne Westwood 1980 - 1989 "examining Vivienne Westwood's transition from street stylist (and Punk innovator) to high fashion designer during the 1980's." The lower level featured the Japan Fashion Now exhibit. “Japan Fashion Now is the first exhibition to explore contemporary Japanese fashion in all its radical creativity from high fashion to street style."

throughout exhibition that our class took the the FIT museum i saw a lot of beautiful garments that put many thoughts in my head. my favorite exhibit was the Japan Fashion Now, because a lot of the garments were very nice n inspirational. a couple of the things i saw in this exhibit brought so many memories to my head because one of the shoes that were on display reminded my of a pair of shoe my social studies teacher from middle school use to wear a lot and it gave me the chance to connect my personal criticism towards the shoes. one of the garments that caught my attention was one of the jackets by Comme Des Garcons. the name of his design was called Junya watanabe. this piece was very inspirational because i always want a jacket that was constructed along the lines that this jacket was. i really enjoyed this exhibit along with the His&Hers and the Vivienne Westwood exhibit.

The class trip to FIT musuem was amazing. It inspired me to learn how to make so many other garments. My favorite part of the exhibition was the Japan Fashion Now.I saw how they use dolls and made actrual garments using the doll to help them they were very unique. Especially the shoes they are very high and I was wondering how could they walk in something like that but it shows Japan has unique taste. This trip helped me learn from fashion back then and how it changed and it inpired me to design a jacket as unique as the garments in the exhibition.
I really enjoyed this exhibit. My favorite part of the exhibition was the Hello Kitty garment displayed downstairs in the Japan Fashion Now portion of the museum. The dress was made of stain, tulle, and sequins. The designer chose to have the whole dress; including the Hello Kitty image, fully done in sequins. It was simply amazing!
Our trip to the exhibit hosted at FIT was a learning experience in more ways then one. I learned about the different styles used throughout history in the His & Hers gallery. I liked this gallery the best because it was organized in a way that you can see the transformation and evolution of fashion. I also learned the influence of important events going on in different eras on the fashion industry.
We also took a look at the Japan Now exhibit which featured a total of 80 garments. Each one unique in it's own way. I liked the diversity of the Japanese collection which taught me more about their culture.

Although, I wasn't able to attend. I went to the exhibit with the F.I.T. club and i felt truly inspried. In the Viviene Westwood Exhibit, they had a pair of wooden platforms boots that were very cute. The combination of the wood and leather was perfect. It was amazing to view Vivienne career from past to present, seeing how much she's grown and developed her style as a fashion designer.I also visited the His&her collection, as well the Japan Fashion show, which I rather enjoyed. I think its very awesome that F.I.T. has a museum that's not only free but very Fashion Forward.
I thought the exibition at the FIT museum was beautiful and very inspiring. There were so many garments that I found exaordinary. One of the most facinating pieces I saw was the leather and wooden shoe that Vivienne Westwood designed. I found the shoe very daring and unique. Many of the styles I saw were things that I would not have thought i could ever incorporate in my own wardrobe but actually thinking and seeing them on display made me reconsider. I'm doing my jacket in class based on one of Shakespeare's plays but there are definiately a lot of good choices that would come from the FIT museum.
i was really ispired by mostly the jappanese contemporary style collection. i loved the edgy styles as well as the colors they used. i loved vivian westwood's shoes. they were very cool and reminded me of something lady gaga would wear. one thing i liked about the his and hers collection was some of the fabrics they used. one of them was taffeta which i really like because its girly and the other was a black fabric with silver on it (i dont know what its called but it was soo pretty). overall i really enjoyed our trip to FIT, and was really inspired.
This exhibit left me with mixed feelings. I liked some of the pieces shown in the different collections but others left me wondering what was the designer thinking. I liked the bra dress from the His and Hers collection; I thought it was very unique. I also liked some of the displays at the Japan collection. Some of the things I thought were strange were the wooden shoes in the Vivenne Westwood collection; I thought that was weird. Overall, I thought the exhibit was interesting. I'd think it over a little though before going back.
The Japan exhibition at FIT, gave me a lot of inspiration for our up coming jacket project. While alot of the pieces in the exhibition were very daring, some were also simple. Some pieces like the Hello Kitty shift dress and the zipper dress really inspired me. All together i had a lot of fun and was very inspired.
This trip to FIT was definitely worth it. Well, I enjoyed seeing the unioque style Vivienne Westwood had for her collection and the unique way she has her models show off her garments on the runway. The HIs&Hers exhibition was nice to look at beacuse it showed the transition throughout each time period. Now, the Japanese exhibition was just breathtaking; I loved every single garment displayed. At first, you notice how the first few garments have the same pattern from head to toe for each piece in the look. I love how the Japanes fashion is way more out there then ours here in New York. Also, how Japanese designers aren't afraid to go there because here we are judged a lot so I feel that's why we don't push the limit. Overall, this trip was a true inspiration.
As I started to go through the exhibition I mostly had my attention focused on the Japanese exhibit. I really love the whole Japanese pop culture as a whole, so to see these eye grabbing collection pieces from different designers had me at a awe. One garment that I really liked is the Hello Kitty Shift dress that were made of sequins. I also like the Vivenne Westwood collection as far as the colors and the collection gives me a vibrant feel to it. I would use both exhibits that I've seen into the Jacket we would be creating and try to merge the two exhibits together in my garment.
