Gucci makes strides in India, page 12
Luisa Zargani
This article discusse fashion in India. Luisa also as a place to start a franchise when she stated, "Gucci's unique combination of luxury heritage adn fashion authority certainly has strong appeal for consumers in this market." I think that the matter addressed in this article influences Fashion Industries because this gives us a new look on fashion. ALl aspiring fashion designers can get to view Gucci, a well-known fashion label, in a new light. What i mean by this is, many fashion designers use culture as inspiration for garments; being that Gucci is now expanding in India, many cultures will influence the new styles for this label. This information has affected me not as a person, because i find it more interesting when you see familiar names going into other countries and becoming popular there. My reaction to this is just amazement. i never knew how fashionable, or in better words, how much Gucci and India relates in the fashion world. I can only end saying you learn something new everyday.

H&M Profit Up 20.9%, page 2
Joelle Diderich
This article discusses the profits of H&M because of the economy. The economy is getting better and it seems that it will recover faster from its recession. The IMF state that the economy is rising 3.9 percent after falling 0.8 percent in 2009. H&M said that it was already seeing improvement because its total sales increased 15 percent in just December. H&M faced tough trading conditions because of the recession so they had to lower their prices, which isn't that good for the economy. This information affects me as an aspiring fashion designer because I am now aware of what can happen some day if the economy worsens while I own my own store.

Canadian firms look beyond U.S.pg9
Due to the United States unstable economy, Canadian manafactuers are looking else where to conduct business, which will impact both the country and the U.S. Fashion Industry being that U.S. is responsible for 85% of all Canadian clothing exports. Canada is looking towards building a relationship with Russia for clothing exports since they have a more stable economy and mass production of clothing. This influences the Fashion Industries because it gives a chance for countries that are unheard of to prove theirself to the fashion world. This would aslo effect an aspiring fashion designer because it shows that we would need to be aware of whats going on with the world and also changes in the economy so we can have a more profitable business.

"Coach to open First Mens only Store" pg 2
Jean E. Pamieri
The article is about the first mens only coach store opening. The article talks about targeting the male market because there really isnt many stores that only cater to men. This affects the fashion industry because the women dominate the fashion industry while men are usually forgotten. if i wee a designer i could create new designs that target men giving a wide variety of options. I think its great that there will be a store only for men because there aren't many only men store because women are usually the target. If the store is successful many designers will probably follow the footsteps of coach. This shows us that men are becoming more involved in the fashion world and want more things offered to them compared to stores that offer a section of clothes for men.

Hoodies Gain Iconic Status, page 21
By Natasha Montrose
The basic topic in this article is the breakout of hoodies seen on the runway. Normally hoodies are associated with Gothic styles or "hoodlums". But now a hood on the back of a $2,000 couture out fit is acceptable.
Dior Homme Designer, Van Assche said that a hood is an essential part in a man's wardrobe and has always existed in ready-to-wear clothing. Designer Rick Owens said its the simplicity of the hood the he loves.
As a future desgner this shows me that something so common and simple as a hood can be translated into a beautiful couture piece. Also it influence the Fashion Industry itself by creating an open door to take something from one category and incorporating it in another.

lingerie - inspired looks influence swim wear, page 12
Katya foreman
The main point of this article was that swim wear brands are seeking new and up coming ideas. The styles of the swim wear are going to be inspired by last springs lingerie run way. This means that this summer you'll be seeing more dressing up the body, instead of keeping it a look that says " just staying in the water to swim" The articles point of view affects me as an aspiring fashion designer because it reminds me that you can take two different lines of clothing and find a common ground in which you take that to grather up inspiring ideas to change and revolutionize your work. I personally think that this idea is a great one, its like having a chance to model lingerie in the beach. The hardest part they Say is finding the right material because lingerie is sensitive and the beach is a harsh enviroment. However, I think they'll pull it off.

Stores Push to Recoup Lost Sales
Tuesday, December 22, 2009
By David Moin
This article describes the improvements in growth rates of shoppers during the holiday season, despite the winter storm event. Many viewers in shock of the retail stocks pushed up were surprised in terms of the latest electronics, men’s apparel, footwear, and furniture showing positive numbers since black Friday weekend. This article very much influences the fashion world. Without its buyers and consumers the topnotch designers wouldn't be making much money, as well as retail store owners. The majority of tourists coming to New York are because of our shopping districts and popularity nationwide. As a designer I would love to see my displays along Fifth Avenue to Herald square. If my clothing is cooler, hipper, and outselling the traditional look then I'm satisfied.

FIRST 'ART MALL' OPENS IN HONG KONG.
To briefly summarize the article, the author informs me [reader] of a new innovative idea dubbed the world's first "art mall". The idea was presented by Adrian Cheng. He admitted that Hong Kong's retail is not very exciting, and that visual stimulation may cause an opportunity for economic stimulation. Abiding by the trend of opening only high-end luxurious brands, he offers shoppers 100 stores and open-air piazza's that cover 340,000 square feet. The art exhibited in the mall will be of local artists to expose their works since many of these artists lack a platform and lack resources. Cheng is expanding his idea quickly through-out other cities confident that his art mall concept will take off. I am completely in love with the idea and I think its great someone is taking the initiative to entice the public into not only shop but entertain them too. Also I'd like to quote him as inspiration to aspiring designers in saying, " Even if I don't succeed, I'm young-- I can always try again"

The main idea of this article is the 82nd annual Academy Awards coming up on March 7th, and the different celebrities and why they are being anticipated on the red-carpet. The Academy Awards and those attending, influence the fashion indusries because the red-carpet is basically a run-way show. All of the celebrities dress up in their best designer clothes to be judged by the fashion world. This can help me as a fashion designer because it lets me know what's in and what's out in fashion.

Donna Karen’s New Scent: Pure DKNY
Donna Karen came out with a new scent called Pure DKNY. The DKNY scent uses Ugandan vanilla to give the scent character. It says Pure DKNY speaks to who you are and the people that you love. I like that it has the power to make women feel at peace. It has a not to light but not to bold scent. It’s also not expensive. Being an aspiring designer it would be nice to have a fragrance out to really get notice.

An ‘Inglourious’-Inspired Line, pg. 23
By Marc Karimzadeh
A new line of clothing inspired by the recent blockbuster, Inglourious Basterds was designed by Ma Corwin. The opening of this line is extremely representative of the place our culture is at now. Inspiration is drawn from the cinema before the actual events the movie was based on. However, it also means a lot for the fashion industry, as this opens up an entire new world of opportunities and ideas in a trade that’s all about innovation. As a designer, this article piqued my interest in many ways. Inglourious Basterds is a movie by one of my favorite directors, Quentin Tarantino, while Ma Corwin is a designer hailing from Taiwan. The latter fact makes me extremely proud of and inspired by her success.

"Retailers digging out in last minute push to re-coup sales " Pages 1,4,and 5
David Moin
The article talks about how the retail business has been struggling since the snow storm in december . It slowed the shopping activity for the first half of the month . Many staores lost sales due to the storm and have figured out ways to back some of the expected profits . Some of the stores that were affected are :BJ's , Aeropastle , Children's Place , American Eagle and many more . The weather has had an impact around the nation as a whole . It has led to early closings and a decrease in sales profits . I wasnt inspired by the article as aspiring fashion designer , it affects me more on the consumer side . The new ideas that stores are coming up with gives me assurance that i will be able to catch a great sale even if the weather isnt so great . the more sales ..the better for me !

Brazil Eyes Sanctions for US Cotton pg.14
John Zarocostas
The problem is Brazil could impose punitive sanctions of about $829.3 million because of the US failure to scrap cotton.More than 200 products could be targeted for high tariffs includin cotton yarn, cotton fabrics, denim fabrics with more than 85% cotton, male trousers, knitted/crocheted fabrics of cotton and women fabrics of nylon.Their concerened is how Brazil will proceed on "cross-retaliation". And Brazil argued that the only reason why the US was able to retain its place as the world 2nd largest cotton producer, because they was able to pay American farmers each year $3 billion. And this matter influence & affects the fashion indistries & me as an aspiring designer because cotton is something major in the fashion industries. And what affects the fashion industries affects me.

Coroner on McQueen:
Death Due to Hanging (page3)
by: Nina Jones
Brenda R.
This article is based on what seems to have been the cause of the death of fashion designer, Lee Alexander McQueen. It is said so far that the cause of his death was due to a hanging. McQueen was found hanging in his wardrobe at his apartment on the morning of February 11, 2010. I think that this situation can influence the hectic Fashion Industry in setting their standards to be more lenient in a way that it is possible for designers to deal with their work lives as well as their personal ones.
I feel that this information can affect me as an aspiring fashion designer by helping me realize how stressful and competitive the fashion industry really is. I now understand how much pressure is set upon fashion designers and many get so stressed out that they end up dropping their career or committing terrible acts of suicide like McQueen did. I guess sometimes a reality check is needed to help people see deeper into something and possibly make a change.

JNBY Among Asian Retailers U.S Bound
Sharon Edelson
The article was about different asian brands oppening up shops in New York and other parts of America but especially one brand called JNBY which statnds for Just Naturally Be Yourslef. JNBY is a Chinese brand that will be unveiling a 2,250 square foot flagship in SoHo. it will be the brands first U.S store. their prices range from $80-$600 and their clothing can be worn in different ways. for example, one of their jackets with multiple zippers can me changed around to change the style and look, also their collars can be adjusted and manipulated to change the look. JNBY will be wholeslaed for fall to specialty stores such as Bergdorf Goodman, Barney's NY, Saks Fifth Ave, Intermix, and Holt Renfew. other brands that have gone U.S bound from Asia are Who.A.U(which plans on oppening a flagship on 34th street), Eryn Brinie, Kaylee Tankus, BNX, Kai-aakmann, and the Japanese Uniqlo
This influences the fashion Industries because we are getting more and more foregn influence. people in the Fashion World like to borrow from the syles of other countries and cultures. we will be seeing more asian influence in our fashion. desgners have to make sure that their stuff will sell in other countries. this brand is taking a big risk in going U.S bound because what might be hot in China may not be hot here so thats a big thing that designers have to thing about. "would this look go international" if you want to be sucessful your stuff should not be limited to your location. designers must thing bigger and also have clothing where the looks can be manipulated.
This article is about masculine-feminine designs coming back into style. The fashion industry will be inspired to extend their clothing lines from the 'boyfriend' fits.
I chose this article because I personally do not like to dress too girly, but not so much like a boy either.
The masculine-feminine trend would be perfect for me because it fits my style.
This article inspires me as a fashion designer because I want to make clothes for young teens with styles similar to mine.
I feel this is a great trend because it’s flexible, and can appeal to a number of people with a huge variety of styles.

"Beyonce Touts Fragrance at Macys Event" (pg.3)
Julie Naughton and Pete Born
Beyonce has promoted her new perfume called “Beyonce Heat”. She had made her first guest appearance, promoting her new perfume at the Macy’s on Herald Square this Wednesday. Her perfume sells for $122.00 a bottle, making a profit of $60,000 with her first 500 devoted customers. The chairman of Macy’s Inc. Terry Lundgren had quoted “It is a possible chance that Beyonce Heat can be the number one selling perfume of the year at Macys”. Special guest appearances at the debut of Beyonce Heat included, the famous singer’s husband; rapper Shawn Carter, singer Usher, and her former band-mate from the group Destiny’s Child Michelle Williams. I’m a big fan of Beyonce and I think that her perfume is going to sell. Not only because of her title as a world renounced singer, but also because it’s selling in a big department store such as Macy’s, which has a wide variety of perfume selections.

Calvin Klein Underwear’s New Quartet
Jean Scheidnes
Danielle
The article I chose was about Calvin Klein’s new underwear campaign. The way they got out their idea was by having international celebrities wear the clothing. They have movie stars, TV-show actors, and athletes as models. They have made their selection diverse so that people around the world can see what’s new with Calvin Klein’s underwear. This influences the fashion industry because other designers can come up with strategies as to how to get their point across to people everywhere. This information affects me because I better understand why design companies chose foreigners to represent their lines. I chose this article because its sort of contradictory to the title of the newspaper ; “Women’s Wear Daily”.

Editor’s name: Amanda Kaiser
Student: Karina M.
Moncler is joining up with Comme des Garcons to come up with a special selection of products and a retail concept. The store, Moncler 365, will be opening on March 25 to sell a mix of black merchandise. This project is joining up the portfolio of the action and association of Moncler and Comme. Designer of street wear, Hiroki Nakamura, created a collection of men’s clothing and named it Moncler V. Nakamura said he was inspired by the vintage clothing of the fifties and sixties. He spent his summer traveling through ski towns from Europe such as Megeve and Chamonix. While there, he visited Alpine museums and he was even able to meet an 84-year old man who makes bespoke hiking boots. Moncler said he will be unveiling another new line called Grenoble during the NY Fashion week.

Title: Herrera Opens at Sum pg.3
Editor's name: Olga Zaretskaya
Carolina Herrera wanted to spread her collection in Tsum which is in Moscow. This article influences Fashion Industries by opening up to new opportunities and exploring. If you sell your collection many different places you are allowing your collection to be scene and discovered. In the article Herrera expressed her opinion saying that the recession does not faze her. I tend to disagree on the statement because in the recession many people cannot afford the luxury items that they used to. I thought it would have been best if she did not state that. If you just limit yourself you aren't letting others experience your collection. This article influenced me by helping me to be more concerned about what I would do for my own collection as a designer. I would think about the business aspect of the fashion industry. You should know who you’re selling your clothing to and what the current trends out there that people want are. This article helped me figure out that you should open up to many opportunities and giving everything a try. Also, from now on I am going to ask myself these questions that I learned in the article. As a designer you are creating the collection for your audience. You should still keep your signature or style in your clothing.

This article is about how hoodies are now in style. It states that some designers used hoodies in their collections, on the spring runways. I think this article is very interesting because I like the fact that designers are able to take something like a hoodie, put it in a design, make it look amazing, and show it in the runway. This information affected me as an aspiring fashion designer because it has inspired me to be more open when sketching/designing and to be more creating with my designs.

Forever 21 Raising Profile in
Japan; page 2
Anne Riley-Katz
Forever 21 is planning to open three new stores in Tokyo in the late spring of next year. The location will be in three shopping districts which are Ginza, Shinjuku, and LaLaport Tokyo Bay development in Funabashi City. When its first store in Tokyo was launched in April in Tokyo’s Harajuku shopping area, 1,500 plus people lined up and waited for the doors to open. American sales are luring the Asian sales because of its rapidness. This could influence the Fashion Industry because now they should think about producing and owning a store located in the Japan since the like America clothing. Also people should just try to develop stores all around so that their brands could become international.

The Business of Being Casual Defining Personal Style in the Workplace, page 2
Cotton Incorporated
Gisselle C.
Many woman struggle every morning when it comes to deciding what is and isn't "appropriate" to wear to work, which is what this article was about. There are many ways to go wrong when it comes to your work attire. You just can't predict what isn't going to be right for that day. In the article Stephan Donnelly, Vice President and General Merchandising Manager for Kmart, said that constructing ones work wardrobe is all about being professional, stylish, and letting your personal taste show. He suggest, and I completely agree, that the essentials for a business wardrobe are: a white shirt, a perfect fit trouser, a black dress, a perfect fit skirt, a classic blazer, dark denim, and a fine gauge sweater. As an aspiring designer this makes me understand how important it is to consider the working people when I think of fashion and design because these people need to know what is and isn’t acceptable for work and such. I feel that what you wear, to work or any place else, may or may not say a lot of who you are as a person or how serious or not serious you may be about what you do.

Order Up, page 2
The wwd artcle, "Order Up!", talked about how online shopping continues to get better, stronger and faster. Since access to the web nowadays is much easier, e- commerce is no longer only about retail store shopping. Looking at the chart titled, Women Who Browsed The Internet For Clothes by Household Income, more percentage of women, no matter what their income was, browsed the internet for clothes rather than acutally going to the store. In addition to that, now there is mobile internet, and it is believed that "Mobile is the future of shopping". It is amazing how technology can change a huge part of how the industry works.
This information would inspire me as a designer because it allowed me to see how important it is to keep up with current technology and use it to my advantage and for the buyers' benefit. It definitely affected the fashion industry just because now rather than retail companies focusing mainly on the store, a huge part of the attention is now going to the online market. My concern goes to the future, and how stores will be functioning then, but only time will tell.

Rosemary Feitelberg
Catherine Malandrino has teamed up with Mary J. Blige to launch a T-shirt collection that will enpower women. Their label, FFAWN + features tunics with messages that say "Im Power" and "Im Free". Malanrino and Blige came up with the phrase "T-Luxe" to describe the shirts and to also make women feel beautiful and comfortable while rocking these tshirts anywhere. This information affects me as an aspiring designer because when I design a collection I know to have a certain group that I want to adversite to and I can create a message behind my designs to capture peoples attention. In addition I think its great that Malandrino and Blige are working on the project that will make women feel beautiful and confident about themselves.

Burberry Said To be Heading To THe Upper West Side, page 4
David Moin
Burberry is coming to the Upper West side of Manhattan! Which is currently a magnet for higher end brands. Burberry opened 2 stores up last november at the foot of Manhattan. Those were the 1st Brit and London stores to open up in the world. "The Upper West side has become equal to the East Side. There is an appetite for better apparel. People want fashion and are willing to pay better prices." The rent on the East Side is usually lower. In order to gain money you have to spend some to make some. I think this would increase currency. People now of days wear uggs, so i think it's a great idea to place the store next to it.

This article discusses how designer Colleen Atwood, designed the costumes for the movie 'Alice In Wonderland'. It explains how you have to think outside of the box wen designing. You also have to keep in mind that the designs shouldn't overpower the people wearing them. It also shows that nothing in the fashion industry is simple. Being a great comes from being great creatively. I feel that people should appreciate designers more. Without their hard work we would all walk around like plain Janes and Joes.

Title: Unica Mills chase new markets as pressure mount
Article posted on March 2, 20210
Page 15
Editor's name: Kerry Olsen
People working in the fashion industry today are struggling to sell and advertise in the midst of the economic downfall. Buyers focus on purchasing price friendly garments that are classic pieces rather than luxurious trends. In Italy, figures of the fashion industry made their stretch in targeting new customers by diversifying their fabrics and prints. Designers such as Testa, Botto Filla and Tainna have created new pieces that are wearable, affordable and eco-friendly. There are new fabrics that combine a blend of wool, silk, and mohair. Reinventing fabrics and leaving the traditional use of fabrics/design can change the sale and distribution prices in the fashion world. I believe that as an aspiring fashion designer, it is important to follow with the trends but, when there is a decline in the economy’s progression there should always be a new plan. As designers, we need to focus on what the customers want: something great to wear that is assertive to the eye and friendly to the wallet. I hope that when I become a fashion designer, I can make clothes that are inventive and affordable for my customers.
Lacoste Takes Strides to Save Crocidile
Lacoste a company that was first to embroider a logo as there brand, now is the first fashion company to get involved with the "Save Your Logo" program. This program encourages companies to get involved with preserving animals that relate to their brand. In this case Lacoste is helping to preserve the endangered species of crocidile called the Gange Gharial, a type of crocidile in which only 1400 remain. I think the fact that Lacoste is participating in "Save Your Logo" might inspire other Fashion Companies to also take action in this great marketing paltform. This information affects me as an inspiring fashion designer by showing me that theres many positive things that you can do to help market a product or type of merchandise and at the same time help a cause.

DVF's Creative Chief Inspired by Brands's DNA,by: Marc Karimzadeh. pg.2
The mid-aged creative director Yvan Mispelaere who has worked with lines such as Gucci Chloe Lanvin, and Valentino. Will be joining with Diane Von Furstenbuerg very shortly to create a very well liked line. Mispelaere has said that the line is so much like him, he even calls it DNA.The line to him is "feminine free-minded and easy glamour". It's known to be colorful and full of prints. The design team who just recently contacted him for his collection is delighted to have someone older to help, improve anythings needed and even have him to like the clothes as well.
This influences the ashion industry because it's showing that previous designers are what is needed to help most young designers today. It may not seem as though their in put is not a need but it makes differences strenghthening their line or collection. this helps me because it shows that designs can come from every little thing no matter how small. I liked the article because Mispleare like colors, prints & just having fun like me.

I chose to read this article because the title caught my eye. I thought it was interesting that Armany was making a 'Utopia' campaign. They say the "Utopia" is marketing the brand's spring collection. they chose a beachy outdoor enviroment look. This article is telling us that they are saving money by posting it online. Not only are they saving money but also saving the planet. I think this 'Utopia' is a great idea that they are doing. It's also a good idea to focus on the urban areas.
