the tailored seam is used for tailored blouses, skirts, coats and for underwear. and a Flat-fell seam is used mostly on Denim. i guess since these seams may be commonly used, i may used them a lot on my designs, like if i made a design that included jeans, i may use a flat-fell seam. (found info at vintagesewing.info/ 1920s/26-fcm/fcm-04.html)

The tailored seam is often found in suits, sporty dresses, coats and pants. The flat-fell seam is mainly used in active-wear like children's wear and jeans. If i'm making a skirt or a coat I would use the tailored seam. If im making jeans i would use the flat-fell seam.(http://books.google.com/books?id=Bnfbypa3BswC&pg=PA70&lpg=PA70&dq=Tailored+Seams+are+used+in+what+fabrics+%3F&source=web&ots=TE79hgqGru&sig=BDPhEdSCI7kn9wLwMp0zgaADMms&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=2&ct=result#PPA70,M1)

Three facts that I learned during our field trip to the Rubin Museum were:
that the patterns used to make the quilt represented symbols from the earlier years.

that the material used to created the art work called Kira was was silk yarn.

some patterns used in the quilts are used in some clothing in different places today.
